Michael S. Vaughn was raised in Homewood and attended Berry High School (which is now Hoover High School). He went to the University of Alabama on a Mechanical Engineering Scholarship and worked as a Mechanical Engineer for three years until he decided to go to Medical School at The University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB). Graduating in the top of his class, he was voted the Outstanding Senior Medical Student at UAB. Dr. Vaughn is Board Certified in Preventive Medicine and takes a keen interest in nutrition, vitamins and exercise.
Dr. Vaughn is a member of the American Association of Family Physicians and an Associate Clinical Professor of Family medicine at UAB. He has mentored more than 200 medical students over the last 30 years of practice. UAB recently honored Dr. Vaughn as one of the Excellence in Business Top 25 and he received the 2016 Martha Myers Role Model Award. He and his wife of forty years, Sandra Johns have 6 children and live in Inverness. Dr. Vaughn is a Bible believing Christian and feels that the Golden Rule is the basis for his practice of medicine. “Treat others as you would want to be treated.”
