WVSU-FM 91.1 Adds Health Tips Program from McWhorter to Sports, Jazz Offerings

Posted by William Nunnelley on 2011-09-02

WVSU-FM 91.1 at Samford University will begin offering a new program of health tips in conjunction with Samford’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy.  The weekly program, “Healthy Dose,” will air Tuesdays at 5 p.m.  It will feature health news and wellness tips from the professionals at Samford’s pharmacy school.

The program will be hosted by WVSU announcer and fourth-year pharmacy student Anthony Bolus. Upcoming programs include such topics as facts and myths of immunizations, information on cholesterol, and celiac disease. Each program will inform consumers on prevention and treatments, and explain how today's pharmacists play a growing role in health care.

Archived programs and links to additional information on each topic can be found online at pharmacy.samford.edu.

Listeners can keep in touch with Samford from anywhere on the world through WVSU-FM 91.1, streaming on the internet and accessible on most smart phones.

WVSU is the radio home of the Samford Bulldogs, with live, play-by-play coverage of most football, basketball and baseball games, along with daily sports updates.  WVSU is also home to “Birmingham’s Smooth Jazz,” offering a unique blend of contemporary jazz music that draws listeners worldwide.  A daily traditional jazz program, “Tuxedo Junction,” highlights Birmingham’s jazz heritage with an entertaining and informative music hour hosted by Bart Grooms at noon each weekday.

All this can be found online at www.samford.edu/wvsu, and most cell phone users can listen using the application at www.TuneIn.com.  For more information on WVSU or its programs, contact General Manager Andy Parrish at wvsu@samford.edu.
