Samford to Present Sondheim Musical April 26-29

Posted by Sean Flynt on 2012-04-17

ALNMSamford's Michael J. and Mary Anne Freeman Theatre and Dance Series will present the beloved Stephen Sondheim musical "A Little Night Music" April 26-29. The play will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 26, 27 and 28, and at 2:30 p.m. April 29. All showings are in Samford's Harrison Theatre, Swearingen Hall.

Set in Sweden circa 1900, "A Little Night Music" is the story of a seemingly endless, magical twilight of love and desire, with couples moving in and out of each others' lives like waltz partners, and the sky "smiling" on them three times before morning.

The 1973 play takes its themes from the Bergman film "Smiles of a Summer Night" and its title from Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik". It is best known for its original song "Send in the Clowns," popularized by Judy Collins and Frank Sinatra. Collins won the 1976 "Song of the Year" Grammy Award for her recording.

Samford Theatre and Dance professor Mark Castle directs the production, with Music professors Randall Richardson as Musical Director and Brian Viliunas as Conductor.

Tickets are $12 (adults,) $9 (55+) and $6 (students/children). Purchase tickets online at arts.samford.edu or call (205) 726-2853.
