Samford University’s School of Public Health and the Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) School of Medicine  in Indonesia have partnered to offer a Master of Public Health to students currently enrolled in UPH's Bachelor of Medicine Program.

The online multidisciplinary program prepares students to apply the latest scientific knowledge to address complex global health challenges.

The customizable curriculum supports a range of career goals in public and population health. All MPH courses are delivered online, with UPH students completing  a summer residency in Birmingham during the third year of the program.

Plan of Study

Career Preparation

MPH/UPH program graduates will develop the public health knowledge and practical skills needed to address today’s most pressing health challenges.

  • Apply epidemiologic methods to the measurement of disease rates, prevention of infectious diseases, and the development and evaluation of health programs and policies
  • Apply statistical methods of estimation and hypothesis testing and explain the basics of correlation and regression for the purpose of analyzing the health of populations
  • Analyze how environmental contaminants (chemical, physical and other exposures) interact with biological systems and their effect on human populations for the purpose of evaluating risk reduction strategies
  • Assess the impact on health policy options of social, political, technological, economic and cultural forces, and apply basic management techniques to address organizational challenges to providing health care
  • Examine public health issues and responses from a social and behavioral sciences perspective and explain social, cultural, political, economic, and behavioral determinants of disparities in health status among population sub-groups
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills for effective practice in their selected field of study

Admission Process and Requirements

UPH students will be required to complete 42 credit hours to receive their MPH degree through the partnership program. All MPH courses are delivered online, with UPH students completing a summer residency in Birmingham, Alabama during the third year of the program.
UPH Application Instructions

Tuition

The MPH/UPH program tuition is $15,000 total ($5,000 per year for three years). Visiting UPH students will pay all costs incurred at Samford University while in residency, including but not limited to, charges for meal plans, housing, health insurance, books and travel. Estimated costs associated with the residency visit (accommodations, transportation, meals, site-visits, insurance, etc.) will be provided by the Samford Global Office approximately six months in advance.
