BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification

Initial Certification

Students enrolled in all MSSON clinical courses must be certified by the American Heart Association with Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers/Professionals and must provide a copy of their card showing proof of current certification. We do not accept online courses. We do not accept Red Cross courses. Other courses, such as Heartsaver AED/CPR, do not meet our clinical contract requirements and are not accepted. The cost for a student’s initial 2-year BLS certification is included in their student fees.

Recertification

If for any reason, a student’s BLS certification expires prior to the last day of their graduating semester, they will need to be recertified. Students are responsible for identifying an approved recertification course and the paying for the cost of the course.

For your convenience, listed below are some recommended resources for recertification:

  • Hoover Fire Department
  • Birmingham Regional EMS: Mr. Brian Gober (205) 934 – 2595, ext. 3
  • American Heart Association: Find a BLS for the Healthcare Provider class near you
