In a special event prior to the commencement ceremony April 29, 2022, Samford University’s Brock School of Business presented final awards to its graduating seniors.

“It is our pleasure as your faculty to have this opportunity to express our appreciation for the hard work of our students,” said Dean Chad Carson.

Master of Accountancy Scholarships

The first scholarship presented was to outstanding accounting students who have chosen to pursue their Master of Accountancy at Samford. The recipients are:

Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Scholarships

The Chartered Financial Analyst program, administered by the global CFA Institute, is considered the most recognized and respected credential in the investment management industry. The CFA Institute awards scholarships annually for Samford finance students to take the CFA exams. The following students were selected based on their potential to successfully pursue and obtain their CFA certification: Joseph Cawood and Hannah Haesly.

Financial Executives International Awards

For many years, the Birmingham Chapter of Financial Executives International generously recognized two outstanding students–one accounting major and one finance major–from each of several universities in Alabama, including Samford. The chapter has now disbanded but chose to donate money remaining in its treasury to fund ongoing recognitions over a period of several years. Two graduating seniors were recognized for the awards: Sam Gonas (accounting) and Alexandra Lewandowski (finance).

American Marketing Association Awards

Alpha Mu Alpha is the national honorary society of the American Marketing Association (AMA) which recognized outstanding scholastic achievement. The Samford AMA chapter inducted new members into Alpha Mu Alpha this year including Meredith Ashley, Haley Batson, Hilton Francine, Jacob Hopkins, Hallie Isom, Bailey Johnson, Aubrey Kirkland, Joseph Krick, Alexandra Lewandowski, Keller Lovvorn, Savanah Needham, Jack Pokluda, Annabella Shima, Catherine Smith and Lily Stowell.

Further, the AMA chapter annually recognizes a member who provided strong leadership and noteworthy service. This year’s outstanding AMA student was Bailey Johnson.

Outstanding Achievement in Economics Award

Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) is the academic honor society for economics. In recognition of her hard work for the Samford chapter, the award for Outstanding Achievement in Economics to was presented to Anna Claire Noblitt.

Financial and Economics Women (F.E.W.) Most Valuable Member

The acronym F.E.W. says it all. Women are often minorities in finance and economics workplaces. This group exists to connect and equip undergraduate women who are interested in finance and economics. The 2022 Finance and Economic Women Most Valuable Member was awarded to Sydney Rennich.

Financial Management Most Valuable Member Award

Financial Management Association (FMA) International provides opportunities for professional interaction between and among finance faculty, practitioners, and students and sponsors a national academic honor society for finance majors. The FMA Most Valuable Member Award was presented to Hannah Haesley.

Outstanding Student in Risk Management and Insurance

Gamma Iota Sigma is the international fraternity of risk management, insurance and actuarial sciences. The 2022 Outstanding Student in Risk Management and Insurance was awarded to Alexandra Lewandowski.

John R. Mott Award

The John R. Mott Award is presented to a man in the graduating class who represents high character, scholarship and student public service. This year’s award winner was Jacob Hopkins.

James M. Sizemore Award

The James M. Sizemore Award is presented annually to a person in the senior class who has best demonstrated character, personality, scholarship and unselfish service to Samford University. This year’s award winner was Jacob Hopkins.

University Service Award

The University Service Award annually honors a student in the graduating class who, in the opinion of faculty and staff, best exemplifies the qualities of social service. This year’s award winner was Brock School of Business graduate Sydney Rennich.

Every year, our students distinguish themselves through academic achievements, honors, scholarships received, and activities such as internships and community service projects. In recognition of the graduating seniors whose accomplishments and participation in school activities have been especially noteworthy, these students have been named the 2022 Who’s Who for Brock School of Business.

The following awards are the most distinguished and prestigious awards presented each year by Brock School of Business.

Distinguished Service Award

Each year, Brock School of Business recognizes graduates who have distinguished themselves by providing outstanding service to the school, the university, and to the community.

Five awards were given to Jacob Hopkins, Ben Lange, Alexandra Lewandowski, Ruthie Mathews and Sydney Rennich.

Outstanding Academic Achievement Award

This award goes to the graduating senior with the highest cumulative Grade Point Average over four years of college. The 2022 recipient was Sophia Tuttlebee.

Brock School of Business Faculty Student of Distinction Award 

Each year the Brock School of Business faculty recognize graduating seniors who exemplify the best qualities of all students who pass through the doors of the school. The students are chosen based on the criteria of academic performance, school spirit and leadership potential. This year’s recipient was Lance Rybka.

John C. Pittman Award

This prestigious award is given to a Brock School of Business graduating senior who has exhibited an exceptional combination of qualities in leadership, academic excellence and Christian commitment. The 2022 John C. Pittman Award winner was Camilla Lemons.
