The Walter M. Graham Sr. Annual and Endowed Scholarship was established in December 2022 by his grandson, James Graham ’14. This scholarship seeks to honor the impact Graham’s grandfather had on his life and career.

James Graham grew up in Birmingham and met his wife, Brooke, while he was a student at Samford University. At a young age, his grandfather taught him how to faithfully steward his financial resources, value hard work and exhibit generosity to others. His grandfather took over the family business, Graham Food Brokerage Co., at a young age. He learned the business while being a family man to a wife and four children.

Graham learned from his grandfather that money is more valuable when it’s earned instead of given. He and his cousins were taught how to make money, invest money and to steward money to help others. This motivated Graham to pursue a career in financial planning so he might help others use their financial resources to impact families and future generations.

Graham currently serves as an executive vice president at Strategic Financial Partners in Birmingham, Alabama. He has served as the president of the Young Alumni Association at Samford and currently serves on the Economics, Finance & Quantitative Analysis Advisory Board for Brock School of Business.

The Walter M. Graham Sr. Annual and Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to students whose lives have been impacted by a grandparent, resulting in that student pursuing a career in business. Samford is grateful for the impact this scholarship will have on the next generation of Christian business leaders.
