Grayson Birch, a senior management major, and Luke Ferris, a senior finance major, are the co-owners of Cleanr Windows. Birch and Ferris turned their desire for meaningful work into a growing window-cleaning business that continues to expand while providing opportunities for fellow Samford students.
What is the story of your company? How did it start?
We started Cleanr Windows at the end of our freshman year after deciding we wanted to pursue something of our own rather than return to our previous jobs. At first, we took on a variety of odd jobs but soon realized that specializing in window cleaning offered greater long-term potential and room for steady growth.
Why did you want to join Samford Startup?
We wanted to join the Samford Startup program for access to the on-campus workspace, mentorship opportunities, and to work alongside fellow entrepreneurial peers.
How has the Samford Startup program supported your business?
Samford Startup has been a huge help to our business by providing a dedicated space to focus on our work and access to startup funds that have supported our growth.
What has been the most challenging part of launching your business? How did you overcome this?
Time management has always been a challenge, especially while balancing demanding classes. Over the years, we have learned to manage our time more effectively, though we continue to look for ways to improve.
How has the Samford Startup program helped you grow professionally?
We have had many opportunities to meet with professionals and engage in professional settings, as well as to interact with our peers when pitching ideas or speaking to a group.
What do you envision for your business?
We are very excited about what the future holds for Cleanr Windows. Our goal is to franchise our business model and become a nationwide leader in window washing.
How is your business redemptive in a Christlike manner?
In everything we do, we aim to glorify God, including in our work. We strive to provide excellent customer service and create a positive workplace environment for our employees.
How do you see your company having an impact on the Samford and Birmingham communities?
Over the years, we have hired many Samford students to work in a variety of positions. We have also held informational booths on Samford’s campus where students can learn about our business and the opportunities we provide.
Why would you encourage other student entrepreneurs to join the Samford Startup program?
We have found tremendous value in being part of the Samford Startup program. Any Samford student with a business or interest in entrepreneurship will not regret joining. The time commitment is manageable, and the program offers many opportunities to support both you and your business.
