Dr. Jodi Newton serves as professor of educational leadership in Samford's Orlean Beeson School of Education. Her research interests include character education, leadership styles and effective K-12 school practices.  She has previously served as the associate dean of the School of Education, director of doctoral programs, and interim chair of the teacher education department. She has taught as full-time faculty in the educational leadership department since 2008. Before coming to Samford, Newton served as the superintendent of Homewood City Schools for over 10 years and as assistant superintendent of Homewood and Fairfield City Schools in Birmingham, Alabama prior to that.
