The Bulldog Investment Fund in Samford University’s Brock School of Business surpassed $5 million in October 2025, marking an impressive milestone that highlights student excellence and the value of experiential learning.

Established in 2008, this achievement positions the student-managed investment fund among the top programs in the nation, according to the Center for Investment Research.

In addition to its national prominence, the program is a hallmark of Samford’s commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers through hands-on experience. Rooted in the university’s mission to integrate faith and learning, the fund encourages students to approach investment management with integrity, purpose and a sense of stewardship.

Through the Bulldog Investment Fund, students master the art of investment management by tackling real market challenges, analyzing live data and investing actual dollars from Samford’s endowment. The fund’s sector-based structure allows student managers to specialize in areas such as information technology, health care, energy and financials while working collaboratively to maintain a diversified portfolio. Students regularly present their analysis and strategy to Samford’s executive leadership team, engage with the university’s investment committee and learn directly from industry professionals who share insights on current market trends and economic conditions.

This high-impact learning experience is grounded in the Stifel/Merchant Capital Portfolio Management Room, which features 12 Bloomberg terminals and a stock ticker that provide students with real-time access to global financial data. Within this space, students experience the pace and precision of a professional investment environment while developing skills that translate directly to their future careers.

“My time in the Bulldog Investment Fund has greatly deepened my understanding of the markets and how different stocks can bring both stability and growth to a portfolio,” said senior finance major Margaret Easterling. “Through presenting stock proposals and collaborating with my peers, I’ve grown more confident in sharing my thoughts and standing behind my ideas. Working alongside my fellow Bulldog Fund managers has been one of my favorite experiences at Samford—it’s been a meaningful way for us to learn together and build a community centered around Samford’s motto: For God. For learning. Forever.”

More than 15 years after its inception, the Bulldog Investment Fund continues to make an impact far beyond financial returns. The program has shaped graduates who step confidently into careers as analysts, consultants and managers across a wide range of industries.

“Reaching the $5 million milestone is a testament to the talent, dedication and collaboration of our students and faculty,” said Marci Johns, interim dean of Brock School of Business and senior associate provost. “The Bulldog Investment Fund gives them a real-world platform to apply what they’ve learned, build confidence and develop the skills that will carry them into successful careers. We’re proud to watch them grow and lead in such a meaningful way.”

The Bulldog Investment Fund exemplifies Samford’s national distinction, ranked by The Wall Street Journal as #3 in career preparation and #7 in student learning opportunities, showcasing the university’s commitment to hands-on, career-ready education.
