Cambridge University researchers have developed a fascinating "personality heat map" utilizing a survey of almost 400,000 Brits. They focused on the Big Five personality traits of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness. It is particularly interesting when you look at this map and compare it to perceived fan base characteristics of various English Premier League teams. Multiple regions in the UK scored high on the "agreeableness" trait, yet only one of the 20 EPL teams is located in one of those regions.

Liverpool FC Has the Most Agreeable Fans?

A close examination of the heat map indicates that the Liverpool FC region is the only one that scored high on agreeableness. Interestingly, the longtime captain of Liverpool, Steven Gerrard, is one of the most agreeable athletes in all sport. It makes me wonder if the "personality" of the team is influencing the fan base or is it the other way around?
