Samford University’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science recently recognized the achievements of its students during an annual awards ceremony held on April 9 honoring graduating seniors, departmental award recipients, honor society inductees and students receiving academic distinctions.
The event also featured an address from alumnus Eric Hube ’91, assistant chief pilot and MD-11 standards manager at FedEx, who encouraged students as they prepare to enter the next stage of their careers.
The department celebrated the following 2026 graduates:
Mathematics majors: Katie Boarman, Anna Claire Gannon and Alessandro Onate
Computer science majors: Tyler Battle, Noah Berry, Randall Betts, Reese Davis, Nathan Frederick, Patrick Gowin, Isaac Hennessey, Ainslee Johnson, Grant King and Kennedy Thomas
Several students were recognized for outstanding academic achievement within their disciplines.
Departmental awards included:
- Outstanding Senior in Mathematics Award: Anna Claire Gannon
- Award for Excellence in Mathematics: Aiden Benton
- Emerging Mathematician Award: Grace Engel, Adelyn Gurley, Katie Peterson and Vitorio Ribeiro Sardinha
- Outstanding Senior in Computer Science Award: Grant King, Ainslee Johnson and Kennedy Thomas
- Award for Excellence in Computer Science: Kelmy Lemus and Jake Masaschi
- Emerging Computer Scientist Award: Aiden Fisher, Ethan Koch and Grant Weighall
New members were also inducted into Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society. Inductees included Grace Engel, Alessandro Onate and Allison Sargent.
In addition, the department recognized students receiving Samford academic honors.
