Debra Johnson is a licensed interior designer with over 30 years of professional experience in the design, architecture and building industry—the majority of which has been in collaboration with her architect-husband and design partner, Kit Johnson. From master planning through construction—their projects range from multi-million-dollar mixed-use urban infill projects to churches, adaptive re-use, design-build, commercial interiors and one-of-a-kind residences.

In addition to her work as an entrepreneur, Johnson’s diverse professional background also includes commercial projects at Gensler (San Francisco), Overland Partners (San Antonio), HKS | Architects & Designers (Dallas), Corgan Architects (Dallas), municipal service for the City of Austin and college level teaching for the University of Texas School of Architecture Interiors Department.

She is passionate about the collaboration of architecture and interior design—allowing each to support the other and ardent about fostering human flourishing through the transformative integration of faith, beauty, order and hospitality across all creative disciplines and life itself. Her teaching and pedagogical approach reflect that vision.

Her and her husband, Kit, have been married 34 years. From Dallas to San Francisco to Austin to Birmingham, they are committed to living in the rich fabric of the city in which they find themselves—a place where they intentionally chose to raise their now two adult sons—just a few blocks from downtown in one of their loft conversions. 

Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commercial Interior Design from the University of Texas at Arlington. In addition to her interior design license, she also holds NCIDQ and ICC-R3 certifications as well as a TDLR Texas Accessibility Academy Certificate.
