Be Part of a Samford Legacy

The Samford University Athletic Band supports university athletic teams, provides high-energy entertainment for fans and fosters positive community relationships on behalf of the athletics department and the university band program. The ensemble is also dedicated to developing students’ musical abilities, offering meaningful performance opportunities, enhancing the overall student experience at Samford, and cultivating leadership skills that translate into students’ academic and professional lives.

The band performs at all home football and basketball games, as well as other university events as needed. Membership is open to any student with prior band experience; marching experience is not required, and no audition is necessary to participate. Performance-based scholarships are available by audition.

Samford University Auxiliary Team

This ensemble is designed to be flexible and adaptable, allowing performers from a wide range of movement and performance backgrounds to contribute meaningfully to the marching band experience. Responsibilities may include equipment work (such as flags, rifles or sabres), visual staging elements, coordinated movement and other performance components as determined by the needs of the production and the Director of Bands. Opportunities are available for performers with experience in dance, baton, flag and related visual arts.

Samford University Majorettes

The Samford University Majorettes perform alongside the Samford Athletic Bands, adding visual energy and tradition to band performances. Their mission is to grow and excel beyond expectations as performers while placing an added emphasis on the “more” in their lives. While technical excellence and performance quality are essential, majorettes are also encouraged to grow personally, academically, and spiritually, recognizing that there is much more expected of them beyond the field.

Athletic Band Scholarships

Athletic Band scholarships are available by audition for winds, brass, percussion, color guard and majorettes. Students pursuing an academic major other than music are eligible to compete for an Athletic Band scholarship by completing the application form and auditioning either live or via video. For video auditions, applicants should copy and paste the video link directly into the scholarship application.

Ensemble placement is determined at the discretion of the faculty based on scholarship application materials and audition results. For more information about Athletic Band scholarships, please contact Patrick Young.
