Pharmacists are able to provide diabetes self-management and education strategies services and diabetes prevention programs through community pharmacies and ambulatory care settings. These services are accredited through Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists and recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Alabama Department of Public Health has been working to increase utilization of these programs across the state, however issues with sustainability have caused many pharmacies to stop offering these services and many to stop pursuing them. These sessions will focus on locating requirements for these programs, addressing common barriers to implementation of these programs, and strategies for successful administration of these programs. The attendee should walk away with practical applications for DSMES and DPP services.
