Hispanic Heritage Month falls between September 15 and October 15 each year, and Samford plans to celebrate the occasion with several events for students, faculty and community members to partake in. The Office of Diversity and Intercultural Initiatives (ODII) will feature information on their Instagram page, @samforddiverse, about why we celebrate the Hispanic community during this time and how you can further connect with your local community.
Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15 in honor of the independence anniversaries for several Latin American countries, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.
Jenée Spencer, director of diversity education and development, encourages all students and faculty to participate in the upcoming festivities.
“Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate and bring emphasis to the Hispanic community and the vibrant culture they bring to our campus and our society,” she said. “ODII is excited to offer several opportunities for our students to learn more about Hispanic culture and participate in our emphasis month.”
This year the celebration will kick off on Ben Brown Plaza, September 15 at 10 a.m.
