As part of our plans to Bring Back the Bulldogs, all Samford students coming to campus for the fall semester will receive a free COVID-19 test through GuideSafe supported by CARES Act funding through the State of Alabama. Within 14 days prior to coming to campus, you must undergo COVID-19 testing. Those who test negative will be permitted to return. Those who test positive must isolate 10 days from the date of the positive test if asymptomatic, or for 10 days from the onset of symptoms, and be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to campus.
If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 12 weeks, please do not re-test at this time. Instead, please provide Covid19health@samford.edu documentation of your positive test in order to affirm necessary time has passed for returning to campus.
You will receive an e-mail within the next week from email@example.com about accessing your COVID-19 test. Please look for and promptly complete the instructions in the e-mail. Students residing in the Birmingham or Tuscaloosa metro areas will be provided instructions for visiting a testing location. Those residing outside of these areas will be given directions to self-test.
The test involves a nasal swab just inside the nostril, which is easy to self-administer and less invasive than the nasopharyngeal swab you may have seen as another sample collection method. If you prefer to test utilizing a different process or health care provider, please contact Covid19health@samford.edu for instructions.
Our ability to test every student entering campus this fall will go a long way in helping us mitigate the risks for contracting and transmitting COVID-19. Students will not be allowed to return to campus without being tested. In the days following your test, you are encouraged to quarantine as much as possible to reduce your risk of contracting COVID-19 prior to returning to campus. Additionally, please continue to take proactive steps to prevent the spread of the virus. Remember to wash your hands frequently, keep at least 6 feet between yourself and others, avoid large gatherings and wear a face covering when in public.
