George Allers is a junior offensive lineman from Birmingham, majoring in accounting.  Last month our football team hosted victims of childhood cancer for one of our games.  The kids joined Coach Pat Sullivan in leading the Bulldog Walk across the Quad and then the coaches and student-athletes hosted their young guests and dads in the locker room of the Cooney Family Field House.  In a spontaneous act, George lifted up one of the children, Andrew, as the team cheered.  This is an exchange on Facebook between George and the mother of a four-year old survivor of leukemia:

Mom:  "You do not know me. I only know who you are because Hollie Huey tagged you in a photograph of you holding my baby boy Saturday in the locker room after your game! My husband told me what you all did. I cannot thank you enough. Andrew and his brother had a terrific time but when you picked Andrew up you made his day and his dads! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"

George:   "I am the one who should be thanking you. Both of your sons had such a powerful influence on not only myself but also the rest of my team. Seeing the fight in them gave us the strength to play even harder. It was a blessing and a privilege to walk out with the boys and spend time with them this past Saturday. I hope that they continue growing stronger and living life to the fullest. God bless you and your family, and thank you for your note. It really means a lot to me."
