Roger was ordained in the United Methodist church (1974) and in June 2018 retired from his role as Superintendent of the Southwest District, a position he has held since 2012.  A native of Texas, Roger graduated from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He obtained his Master of Education in Counseling at the University of Montevallo.

Roger has served as pastors of several churches throughout Alabama and served as Hospital Chaplain at Carraway Methodist Medical Center and UAB.  He also served as the Chair of the North Alabama Conference Board of Ordained Ministry.
