University-wide Key Inventory

This week the university launched a university-wide key inventory process. This inventory is in-keeping with the university key policy, which requires routine updates of this information. Everyone is asked to participate by completing the key request form in form central. Please list all university building and office keys (including numbers & letters on the key), secure the appropriate signature, and return the form to your building coordinator by November 15. One form per person is all that is required.

If you have keys that you do not need please return them to your building coordinator with as much information as you can provide. We appreciate your assistance.

Request for new keys can be submitted using the same form, and after securing appropriate signatures, attaching it to the workorder request for a new key. Keys must be picked up at Facilities Management located on the 2nd floor of the North Parking Deck (by the Arts Loft).

Campus Safety Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in the University-wide Fire Drill held on October 19 at 2:00pm. Our next drill is set for March 8, and while still under discussion, will likely focus on an active shooter scenario.

The Emergency Readiness Team hosted Officer Tim Evans, Samford Public Safety who conducted a session on Healthy Relationships and avoiding Domestic Violence on October 24. Over 200 students attended this event where Officer Evans shared the tragic story of the loss of his daughter, Bethany to domestic violence. Please keep this Samford family in your prayers.

Public Safety has moved to Seibert Hall.

Campus Master Plan Sustainability Update

In the first quarter of this fiscal year (July, August, September) the campus has saved over 4 million kilowatt hours of energy due to our campus infrastructure improvement project. This is equivalent to 641 passenger cars driven for one year each.

We have installed 1,100 new windows, 4.682 sanitary fixtures, LED lights across campus, new HVAC systems in some locations, weather stripping on doorways, and will continue working to install building controls through next year.

Samford University is pleased to partner with the Homewood Environmental Commission, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and others for the 3rd Annual Green Skies Tree Planting. Please consider joining us this Saturday, November 4 from 8 a.m. until noon to plant 200 small trees along the Shades Creek Greenway. Check-in will be located in the parking lot at 600 University Park Place.

Office of Events Management

The Office of Events Management received 38 requests for summer camps and is now working through the review process.

Facilities and Residence Life are working together to create a three-year plan for effectively housing summer camps. In mid-November, we will meet with all camp hosts to discuss our plans and help you prepare for the best camp experience possible.
