Since joining Samford in 1995, Heather has worked with students as a career counselor, an academic advisor for undeclared majors, and Director of the Success Mentoring Program for at- risk freshmen. In her current role, she continues to help clients with their major and career decisions through the administration and interpretation of self-assessments and through guided research activities and the application of decision-making models. She develops and creates a variety of programming and informational materials to encourage students in exploring their major and career options. She also assists students and alumni in writing effective resumes and honing their interviewing skills. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Birmingham- Southern College. She holds both a Master of Arts in History and a Master of Education degree with a concentration in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Montevallo. Prior to coming to Samford, she worked in career services at the University of Montevallo, as well as in the private sector in the retail and publishing industries. She is a member of the National Career Development Association. And as a member of both the Alabama Counseling Association and the Alabama Career Development Association, she has held leadership positions in both, including having served as Secretary of the state association and as President of the Jefferson/Shelby chapter.
