Be advised that the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for our area until 8 p.m. This includes a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” designation, which means that conditions are especially favorable for potential tornado development during this time.

With this in mind, university and academic leadership has made the decision to utilize remote instruction and operations starting at 1 p.m. today. Please plan accordingly.

Essential operations for campus, residential halls and food service will continue. Students should communicate directly with their faculty regarding assignments, alternative schedules, clinics and courses.  Employees should direct any questions to your supervisor.  If you have questions regarding specific events, please contact the event sponsor.

As always, the safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority. Please stay alert and cautious. If you hear tornado sirens, you should immediately make your way to the lowest level of the building, away from doors and windows. We will also communicate to you via RAVE, but do not wait. If you hear the sirens or receive an alert on your phone, you should immediately take appropriate shelter.

Samford is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates as soon as possible through email and Samford University Alerts. We also encourage you to stay aware of current weather conditions through the local media, the National Weather Service and the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency.

You should always use your own best judgment regarding personal safety and conditions in your area.
