Campus Community,

Please be advised that the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for our area today until 4 p.m.

All operations of the university will continue as scheduled. In case of course-related questions, students should communicate directly with their faculty.

As always, the well-being of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority, so please stay cautious and alert. If you hear tornado sirens, you should immediately make your way to the lowest level of the building, away from doors and windows. We also will communicate to you via RAVE, but do not wait. If you hear the sirens or receive an alert on your phone, you should immediately take appropriate shelter.

Remember the following guidelines for tornado preparedness:

  • Stay indoors, away from windows and glass doors.
  • Do not use elevators.
  • Close all interior doors and window blinds.
  • Go to the center of a small interior room, closet or hallway on the lowest possible level of the building.
  • Lie on the floor under a table or other sturdy furniture.
  • Do not have a false sense of security if the weather calms. It could be the eye of the storm, and winds can pick up again.
  • In the event of an injury or life-threatening situation, call 911 or the University Police at (205) 726-2020.
  • Evacuate if you are directed by emergency personnel or if you feel you are in danger.

Samford is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available through email and Samford University Alerts. We also encourage you to stay aware of current weather conditions through the local media, the National Weather Service and the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency.

Please stay safe and aware. You should always use your own best judgment regarding personal safety and conditions in your area.
