Samford Colleagues,

COVID-19 testing will be required of all employees (and students) prior to returning to campus for the Spring semester.  Samford will utilize the Everlywell home collection molecular PCR test kit (this is the same test kit used in August) and will provide this test kit at no charge to employees.

The following short instructional VIDEO describes the testing process. Once you have your test kit, you will register it online and then follow the included step-by-step instructions for properly collecting and returning your sample.

You must take your test within 7 days of returning to campus (on or after December 28th for those returning on January 4th).  It is important to note that your test sample must be returned to a UPS dropbox on the same day as sample collection. A best practice to avoid potential weekend and holiday delays would be to arrange to take your test and drop it off between Monday, 12/28 and Wednesday, 12/30.  A prepaid shipping label will be included in your test kit. Your results will be available online 24-48 hours after the test sample arrives at the lab.  Results are automatically reported to the appropriate state and local agencies and to Samford Human Resources.  Those who test negative will be permitted to return to campus.

Those who test positive must:

  • Report to covid19health@samford.edu
  • Notify your immediate supervisor if you are placed in quarantine or isolation during scheduled workdays

AND

  • isolate 10 days from the date of the positive test if asymptomatic,

OR

  • for 10 days from the onset of symptoms,

AND

  • be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to campus.

Distribution

Everlywell has specified that anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will not be eligible for testing through this program.  Your fellow Samford employees at the pick-up site are not equipped with the same level of PPE and safeguards as are some COVID-19 test sites.  Therefore, if you have symptoms of COVID-19, please contact your health care provider immediately and do not risk exposure of a fellow employee by going to the on-campus test kit pick-up site.

Employees must bring their Samford ID Card with them for test kit pick-up.  Test kits will be distributed from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the following dates:

Wednesday, December 2nd - The HUB at University Center or Lobby of CHS
Thursday, December 3rd, Friday, December 4th, Wednesday, December 16th - The HUB at University Center

For employees who will be out of town through Friday, December 4th and unable to pick-up their test kit, please arrange to pick-up your test kit on Wednesday, December 16th.  For any faculty who will be out of town and unable to retrieve their test kit, please email your mailing address to Senior Associate Provost Howard Finch and the testing kit will be mailed to you.

We appreciate your assistance with this process. In case of questions or concerns, contact your immediate supervisor or Human Resources at HR@samford.edu
