Dear Students,

The beginning of the fall semester is just weeks away and we are looking forward to welcoming you back to campus. As noted in the July 14 update, this email provides you with important information related to Required Reentry Baseline Testing.

As was the case last year, Samford will require a negative PCR test result before students are allowed to reenter campus, attend class or access residence halls. Samford will provide all students with free testing on campus or by mail in the coming weeks. All Required Reentry Baseline Tests must be administered within seven days prior to your first return to campus. Should you receive a positive test result you will need to follow CDC and university protocols to receive clearance for campus entry: isolate for 10 days from the date of the positive test if asymptomatic; or, isolate for 10 days from the onset of symptoms and be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to campus.

If you prefer, you may submit a negative PCR test result obtained at your cost from your own healthcare provider. Either way, the PCR test must be taken within seven days of your first return to campus. It is your responsibility to ensure you have a negative test result delivered to Samford before the start of the Fall 2021 academic semester.

Test Options

Students have three options for meeting Reentry Baseline Testing requirements for the Fall 2021 semester. Please review the table below carefully to identify important deadlines based on your date of return.

  • OPTION 1: If you are a graduate student or an undergraduate student living off-campus, Samford will host an on-campus, drive-up Reentry Baseline Testing clinic August 23-25, 2021. Tests will be self-administered in your vehicle, collected by Samford staff and delivered to the lab for you. This eliminates the need to UPS your result while reducing the risk of lost or damaged tests.  Results will be emailed to you and automatically uploaded to Samford, usually within 48 hours.  We strongly encourage all eligible students to attend this clinic.
  • OPTION 2: For residential students, students returning to campus before August 30 and those who will not be in Birmingham during the on-campus testing clinic, you may request for a PCR test kit to be mailed to you at no cost. Students choosing to receive a test kit by mail will self-administer the test using a nasal swab for sample collection and mail the sample as outlined below to allow sufficient time for processing results. Detailed instructions will be provided with your test kit.
    • FOR EITHER OPTION 1 OR 2, please make sure you have created an account at www.everlywell.com prior to attending the on-campus clinic or receiving your test kit in the mail. Most students attending Samford during the 2020-21 academic year already have an account on file with Everlywell as they provided testing services for the university last year. You will need to use the email address you provided during your initial registration to register your test kit and access your results.

TO REQUEST A TEST KIT VIA MAIL, PLEASE FOLLOW THE LINK BELOW. Note that your request must be received by the date indicated in the Testing Schedule below or we will not be able provide a free test kit:

RECEIVE A TEST KIT BY MAIL

  • OPTION 3: You may choose to provide a negative PCR test result obtained from your personal healthcare provider at your own expense. All tests must be administered within the seven days preceding your return to the campus (please see the table below).  Samford does not accept test results from home testing kits. Students who select this option must upload their negative PCR test result to the university portal using this link(samford.edu/go/UploadResults). Students may submit a negative PCR result from samples taken via nasal swab, oral rinse or any FDA approved administration technique.

Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 since June 1, 2021 should not retest but instead should upload documentation of their previous positive COVID-19 test result here (samford.edu/go/UploadResults).

If you are enrolled in a fully online program or participating in clinical rotations or internships and will not be on campus at any time during the fall semester, you are not required to complete the Reentry Baseline Testing.

Additional information is provided in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) posted to the university’s COVID-19 website. Also, remember that all previous campus COVID-19 Update communications are available at this site. Return to the website often, as new FAQs and campus protocols will be added and existing ones may be modified.

As with all COVID-19 matters, students with questions about Required Reentry Baseline Testing should email covid19health@samford.edu.

Thank you for your cooperation as we prepare for the fall semester. We appreciate your compliance with Samford’s efforts to support the health of our campus community!
