Dear Campus Community,

In light of new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), Samford University is requiring all persons on campus, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks in all public indoor settings. This requirement includes all university facilities and will go into effect tomorrow, July 30. This policy will be reviewed again on Friday, August 20.

COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have increased dramatically across the country, Alabama and Jefferson County in recent weeks, due primarily to the very contagious Delta variant and insufficient vaccination rates. The new CDC and ADPH guidance related to indoor masking is intended to slow the spread of infection and ensure that all individuals are protected.

By reinstating this indoor masking requirement, we are hopeful this will give Samford the best opportunity to move forward with our plans for regular operations this fall.

Samford continues to strongly encourage vaccination against COVID-19. We encourage employees and students, in consultation with their health professional, to complete the entire vaccination schedule and be fully vaccinated before the start of the fall semester. This means acting now if you’ve not done so already.
