Mini Conference Reboot: In this session, participants will be introduced to current research trends on the science of listening. Participants will also explore potential factors affecting their perception of whether students are engaged, including: instructors’ listening styles, communication apprehension, and generational differences, among others. Nonverbal cues for engagement and strategies for maintaining classroom attention will be discussed. Strategies for fostering the habit of attention will be presented, both for faculty and for our students. The session will be interactive and discussion-based with opportunity to evaluate experience-based scenarios. Consideration will also be given to personal applications for individualized and diverse classroom contexts.
