About the Big Give
What is the Big Give?
Now in its 10th year, Samford’s Big Give is a 36-hour crowdfunding campaign that encourages alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends to support the university in a fun and engaging way. The key is that donors come together, giving gifts of any amount, to make a BIG difference for Samford students.
How do faculty and staff participate in the Big Give?
Faculty and staff can participate in three ways:
Why is faculty and staff giving important?
As faculty and staff, we are Samford’s biggest and best advocates. We experience firsthand the difference a Samford education – rigorous academics imbued with the love of Christ – can make in the lives of our students and even ourselves. Giving of your treasure, no matter the amount, is one way to show your support for this special place.
How do I make a gift to the Big Give?
One month of new, updated and existing payroll deductions will be counted toward the Big Give total. New and updated payroll deductions will be drafted from your paycheck beginning July 1, 2022.
Online gifts can be one-time or recurring on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis. Recurring gifts totaling $60 annually qualify you for membership in the Beeson Society. You also have the option of joining the President’s Society with a yearly contribution of $1,500 or more. See Do I receive anything for my participation? for more about the societies.
All gifts can be designated to your favorite school, department, program or initiative.
Will my payroll deduction be counted toward the Big Give?
Absolutely! One month of new, updated and existing payroll deductions will be counted toward the Big Give total. However, new and updated payroll deductions will not be drafted from your paycheck until July 2022.
How do I change my payroll deduction?
To update an existing payroll deduction, please complete a new payroll deduction form and return it to Kim Cripps in University Advancement. Please contact Kim at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
What should I do if I do not want to change my payroll deduction?
If you do not wish to change your payroll deduction, you do not need to take any action. One month of your payroll deduction will be automatically counted toward Big Give totals.
Do I receive anything for my participation?
Yes! We want to share the love with Samford donors! During the Big Give, all donors who give online will be entered into a prize drawing for Samford swag and Samford Shop gift cards. These prize drawings are generously sponsored by the Samford Shop.
Additionally, recurring gifts totaling $60 annually ($5 monthly) qualify you for membership in the Beeson Society; you receive a snazzy pair of exclusive Samford socks! You also have the option of joining the President’s Society with a yearly contribution of $1,500 or more. Both online and payroll deduction gifts can earn you membership into these societies.
About Project Share the Love
What is Project Share the Love?
Much like candygrams or singing Valentines in high school, Project Share the Love is a new opportunity to honor a Samford someone – or something – who makes a positive difference in your life. This special initiative, which replaces the annual Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign, is designed to spread camaraderie across and within departments.
How does the Project support the Big Give?
Project Share the Love is part of the Samford’s Big Give. It helps emphasize this year’s theme, For the Love of Samford. It also replaces the annual Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign, which has become part of the Big Give in recent years. The Project spreads awareness of the Big Give in a creative way and encourages donors to make meaningful contributions to the places, and in honor of the people, they care about.
How do I participate?
For online gifts, be sure to complete the In Honor Of text box on the giving form. For payroll deductions, email email@example.com with the name of your honoree and the fund you are supporting.
Then, Advancement Staff will complete a card like the one pictured below and deliver it to the person you are honoring. For gifts made in honor of departments, programs or initiatives, cards will be delivered to the appropriate faculty or staff member overseeing the program, etc.
