Law Building Renovations Completed as Cumberland Readies for Entering Students
Samford University has completed a $3.2 million renovation of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system of Memory Leake Robinson Hall, the home of Cumberland School of Law. Faculty and staff members, who spent the summer in other campus buildings, moved back into Robinson Hall in preparation for the arrival of entering law students Monday, Aug.15. Fall semester law classes will begin Monday, Aug. 22.
School of Performing Arts Professor James Jensen Heads Birmingham Art Music Alliance
Samford University School of Performing Arts professor James A. Jensen has been elected president of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance (BAMA), a consortium of Alabama composers, professional performers and students dedicated to maintaining music as a living art form through a series of concerts and other projects. A member of the Samford faculty since 1968, Jensen holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Florida State University.
Richardson Invited to Address Hymn Society of Great Britain and Ireland
Samford University music professor Paul A. Richardson was invited to address the annual meeting of the Hymn Society of Great Britain and Ireland in Chester, England, July 27. Dr. Richardson is assistant dean, division of music, in Samford's School of Performing Arts. He recently completed an update of the late hymnody expert Erik Routley's classical work, A Panorama of Christian Hymnody.
Samford Business Professor Lockamy Presents at Global Economics Conference
Samford University business professor Archie Lockamy III presented two research papers at the 4th Global Conference on Business and Economics at Oxford University, Oxford, England, June 27-28. He spoke on "The Impact of Horizontal Mechanisms within Sales and Operations Planning Processes on Supply Chain Integration and Performance: A Statistical Study" and "Using V-A-T Analysis as a Framework for Supply Chain Management: A Case Study." Lockamy is professor of operations management in the Samford School of Business.
PARCA Projects Earn Two National Awards from the Governmental Research Association
The Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA) at Samford University received two national research awards at the 2005 Governmental Research Association (GRA) conference in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The first award, for Outstanding Policy Achievement, was for a project entitled "State Budget Reform" consisting of publications and related activities over 15 years (1989-2004), culminating in the implementation of "SMART Budgeting" by the State of Alabama in 2004. The second award, for Most Distinguished Research, was for a report, "Analysis of Non-Instructional Expenditures, Staffing, and Operating Practices in the Huntsville City School System," that provides the school system a foundation for strategic planning based on best-practice analysis.
Theology Study by Beeson Associate Dean Paul House Published in Brazilian Edition
Samford University divinity professor Paul House's 1998 book, Old Testament Theology, has been published in a Brazilian edition by Vida Press of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The book, Teologia do Antigo Testamento, appeared in July. The associate dean of Samford's Beeson Divinity School, Dr. House is the author of several other books and numerous scholarly articles. His article, "God's Character and the Wholeness of Scripture," appeared in the spring issue of the Scottish Bulletin of Evangelical Theology.
