Independent Ladies won the Sweepstakes Award for their "We Stick Together--A Story of Shadows" show in Samford University's 2006 Step Sing competition.

The three-night student-produced song and dance competition concluded Saturday, Feb. 18.

Dudes-A-Plenty, a men's group, took first runner-up honors for their show entitled "The Man and the Machine." Zeta Tau Alpha sorority was named second runner-up for "Spice Up Your Life."

Awards for excellence in various categories went to: Dudes-A-Plenty, theme; Independent Ladies, choreography and music.

Participants Choice award winners, voted by Step Sing participants were: Sigma Chi, best music; Zeta Tau Alpha, best choreography; Phi Mu, best costume; and Pi Kappa Phi, best overall.

Alpha Omicron Pi sorority won the Community Service Award for raising the most money for this year's Step Sing Philanthropy. Donations will go to Student Ministries' missions scholarship program.
