Recent Samford graduate Anna Swindle of Lilburn, Ga., has received a highly competitive Fulbright grant for overseas experience. Swindle, who received a bachelors' degree in May, will work as an English teaching assistant in Malaysia.

Selection for Fulbright grants is based on leadership potential, academic and/or professional excellence and commitment to international understanding.

Swindle, who majored in journalism/mass communication and Spanish, will begin her assignment in a secondary school in the Terengganu region of Malaysia in December. She will teach conversational English during the Malaysian school year, which runs January through October.

At Samford, Swindle participated in study abroad programs in England and Spain. She was a member of several academic honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Samford's highest cross-discipline recognition society. She is the daughter of Dorothy and Richard Swindle.

Fulbright grantees meet and work with the people of the host country, sharing daily life as well as professional and creative insight.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright student program enables Americans to encounter a wide variety of different cultures while developing international experience and building leadership skills.
