Bruce Atkinson, chair of Samford University’s mathematics and computer science department, made a presentation on wavelets at the 117th annual joint mathematics meetings Jan. 6-9 in New Orleans, La.
Wavelets is a research topic Atkinson first studied while on sabbatical in fall 2006. The presentation on Wavelets was based on research he did with an undergraduate student three years ago.
Atkinson also served as the Mathematical Association of America Southeastern section chairman. He said a few of the most exciting things about the conference was to see “what is going on in classes across the country,” as well as to “learn the current and best tactics.”
Also attending was mathematics and computer science associate professor David Foreman.
