Samford Athletics and the Cox Media Group of Birmingham announced a partnership today that creates a new radio home for Samford football and men's basketball. Beginning this fall, all Samford football and men's basketball games including post-season play for both sports will be aired on Cox's all-sports station 97.3 The Zone, and will be available online at www.973thezone.com.

"This partnership further strengthens the Samford brand in our community and creates a powerful broadcast signal for our fans to listen and follow the Bulldogs year round," Samford Director of Athletics Martin Newton said.

In addition to the game broadcasts, 97.3 The Zone will also become the exclusive home for "Samford Football with Pat Sullivan" and "Samford Basketball with Bennie Seltzer". These hour-long weekly radio shows will provide Bulldog fans with an up-to-the minute glimpse inside the Samford football and men's basketball programs.

"97.3 The Zone is excited to be the broadcast partner for Samford Bulldog football and basketball for this season ," David DuBose, vice president and market manager for the Cox Media Group in Birmingham, said. "Samford has a loyal following for its athletics program and our listeners in central Alabama will never miss a minute of the action as a result of this partnership between Samford University and Cox Media Group."

Samford Director of Communications Mike Grace will return for his sixth year as "Voice of the Bulldogs". Samford Associate Director of Athletics for Community Affairs, Jay Roberson will once again join Grace in the booth as the color commentator for football game broadcasts.

Cox Media Group's David McDaniel will host a 60-minute pre-game show and thirty-minute post-game show. McDaniel will also serve as the sideline reporter for football games. Later this year, Samford will announce additional production and talent roles for the men's basketball broadcasts.

Samford women's basketball and baseball will continue to have a broadcast home on Samford University's WVSU-FM 91.1 and online at www.samford.edu/wvsu.

"We would like to thank David and the entire Cox Media Group team for working with us on completing this deal," Newton added. "I would also like to thank the members of our external relations staff that were instrumental in putting this deal together including: Marvin Julich, Don Scott and Mike Grace."
