Samford University's Leslie Stephen Wright Fine Arts Center once again will be the home for the Alabama Symphony Orchestra's Red Diamond SuperPOPS! Series for 2012-13. The Wright Center will host six of the Symphony's pops concerts, featuring the melding of popular music with the playing of the Alabama Symphony, according to Sean Wright, Samford's director of venue management.
All ASO SuperPOPS! concerts begin at 8 p.m. Tickets for all Symphony events can be purchased by calling (205) 975-2787 or by going online to alabamasymphony.org. Season passes are currently available starting at only $138.
The 2012-13 SuperPOPS! Series begins Friday, Nov. 2 with "A Broadway Romance," led by acclaimed music director Ted Sperling.
Saturday, Dec. 8, Holiday Cirque de la Symphonie returns after their "terrific performance" in 2011, Wright said.
The new year begins with a celebration of the music of Ray Charles on Saturday, Jan.12, featuring rhythm and blues sensation Ellis Hall.
Broadway star Linda Eder will join the Symphony on Saturday, March 2, followed by pop music legend Neil Sedaka performs on Saturday, April 20.
The SuperPOPS! Season will conclude with a tour through southern rock with Sweet Home Alabama Symphony on Saturday, May 4.
Wright said he is "incredibly pleased" to be partnering with the Symphony again this season. "It's just a wonderful opportunity for Samford to bring these world-class artists onto campus. We feel like this is the perfect venue for the SuperPOPS! Series and we are happy to provide a home for the Symphony."

With 500+ songs to his credit, dozens of number one hits and millions of records sold, it's hard to overestimate the influence Neil Sedaka has had on American pop music. He first hit fame just out of his teens as a singer and songwriter in the 1960s and has had musical successes in every decade since. Now, Birmingham audiences have a chance to hear the man who has had the country humming tunes like "Breakin' Up Is Hard To Do," "Love Will Keep Us Together," and "Where The Boys Are" for 55 years.
