Spring Fling Will Offer Break From Studies

Samford University students will enjoy a week of activities ranging from a free photo booth to Sumo wrestling during Spring Fling April 30-May 4. A highlight will be the concert by popular rock band Switchfoot at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 in Pete Hanna Center.
Tickets are on sale now for the concert. Switchfoot began with successes in the Christian rock scene before gaining mainstream recognition when its music was featured prominently in the 2002 movie A Walk to Remember. Tickets are $16 general admission, and may be purchased at www.samford.edu.
All other Spring Fling events are free. Most are on Ben Brown Plaza. The line-up:
Monday---Photo booth, Bruster's ice cream and sunglasses giveaway, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A freshman talent show is also planned.
Tuesday---Flea market, Kona Ice and color-changing cups giveaway, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Wednesday---Wing Fling with chicken wings and soft drinks, Koozies giveaway and Sumo wrestling, 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Paintball, 6 p.m.- 10 p.m., intramural fields; Battle of the bands, 7 to 9 p.m., intramural fields.
Thursday-Kettle corn, funnel cakes, spin art and balloon artist, 10 to 2 p.m. Dinner will be served on the Plaza at 5 p.m., followed by Switchfoot.
Friday-Inflatables with slide and obstacle course, caricature drawings and treats by Dreamcakes, 11 a.m-1 p.m.
T-shirts will be sold all week on the Plaza and at Battle of the Bands on Wednesday night.
Student directors of Spring Fling 2012 are Karlie Calhoun, a junior biology major from Peachtree City, Ga., and Nicole Bader, a sophomore journalism/mass communication major from Cumming, Ga.
