The work of Samford University’s dining services continues to be recognized on the national stage. Samford Dining was awarded the silver medal for Dining Facility of the Year by the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS).
The dining hall, known as the Caf, underwent a $10 million remodel in 2023 and excels in providing communal dining, biblical fellowship, and healthy lifestyle choices to students. NACUFS awarded Samford the bronze medal for innovation in 2024, with the remodel providing the dining team the opportunity to serve fresh, made-to-order options as well as quick-service items. Since the renovation, the Caf has seen a 28% increase in participation.
“Our tag line—‘Food and Fellowship’—illustrates how our Christian mission of community drives everything we do at the Caf,” said Wade Walker, director of business services.
Lauding the leadership of dining hall manager Thomas Varytimidis, Walker said it has been an honor to represent such an outstanding team.
Founded in 1958, NACUFS is the first association directly focused on food services at colleges and universities. Institutional members range from private universities like Samford to some of the largest public universities in the country.
“The dedication and engagement shown by our Caf employees are a true reflection of Aramark’s leadership and the compassionate spirit of our dining services staff,” Walker said. “Their commitment to customer service is evident in the strong relationships they build with our students.”
