Dr. Serena Simoni from the Department of Political Science advises the members of our Model United Nations team.  She asked Lauren Hunt, a member of the team, to provide this abbreviated travelogue from their recent trip to Rome.  (That’s Rome, Italy, not Rome, Georgia, by the way.)

 "The Samford Model United Nations team had an amazing trip to Rome, Italy from November 3-10 for the ROMUN conference. Each student represented a country within committees including the International Court of Justice, the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, and the Disarmament and International Security Committee. We had the opportunity to work with delegates from around the world to solve the international problems placed before us in our committees. At the end of the week Daniel Yarborough, a senior team member, was given the best delegate award for his committee. As the only Americans at the conference, we had a unique opportunity to connect with international students and we quickly became friends with many of them. Each night of the conference, we attended social events hosted by ROMUN. We had a traditional Italian dinner at one of Rome's most famous restaurants after the second night of the conference. On the last night,we attended the gala dinner on the rooftop of the Flora Hotel. We had a delicious three course meal and had a great time with our new international friends. We had a wonderful time not only in committee meetings but also at the social events. We will miss the gelato, pasta and pizza, but our team is very grateful for Samford's support so that we could attend this conference."

The world is better because of Samford’s involvement with global issues.  And because of gelato.
