In her time at Samford, Payton has been a member of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, the John Howard Scholars, and the International Honor Society in Psychology. Additionally, she has taken research posters to the Southeastern Psychological Association Annual Meeting (2021) and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine Annual Conference (2021), served as an editor for the Samford Undergraduate Research Journal (SURJ), and completed internships with the Fellows program and the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. She currently works in a research lab at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has pending research presentations for the upcoming 2022 conference season. After her December graduation, Payton intends to pursue a PhD in Counseling Psychology with hopes of contributing to both the research and private practice fields of counseling.
