Only students seeking need-based aid are required to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). However, we recommend that students and their families submit a FAFSA every year as a starting point for securing aid.
Need-Based Aid
Students seeking need-based federal aid or need-based institutional aid must complete the FAFSA by February 15 preceding the next academic year to be considered for the limited need-based resources available. The FAFSA is available online each year from October 1 through June 30 two calendar years later.

Student Employment
Samford University provides students with opportunities to gain valuable work experience through two employment programs. Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions are awarded based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA, while Institutional Student Employment Program (ISEP) positions are open to all eligible students and are not based on financial need.
Grants
The Alabama State Grant is available for most undergraduate Alabama residents who submit the necessary paperwork associated with the application. These awards may provide approximately $1,000 a year in additional assistance.
Merit-Based Scholarships
Entering freshmen must complete their application for admission by December 1 preceding their first fall semester of enrollment to be considered for merit scholarships. Students who miss the December 1 deadline can still be considered for non-academic–based scholarships if they are admitted by February 15. Some Samford scholarships require an additional application. Prospective students should check with your admission counselor for more information.
Graduate and returning undergraduate students should contact their academic department or dean to learn about institutional aid opportunities, including any required applications or deadlines. The One Stop team is available to assist with filing the FAFSA and helping students understand the financial aid options available to them.
Aid Renewal
Requirements for renewal of institutional aid may be found in the student portal, on your aid notification letter or by contacting your One Stop Adviser.
