The Technology in Learning Center, or the TLC, exists to support Samford employees in implementing technological tools to enhance teaching and learning across the university. We can help you arrange a short-term loan for a piece of computer equipment, work with you on a PowerPoint presentation, help you to digitize your slides and more. If it involves teaching and technology, we can help you make it happen!
We are located on the lower level of Davis Library, room 014 and are open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome; however, if you need to speak with a technician, please call 205-726-2662 or email support@samford.edu to arrange an appointment.
Services
Consultation
The TLC staff are available to discuss faculty teaching goals and assist in developing plans to achieve these goals via the use of appropriate technology.
Media Digitization
The TLC provides the hardware and software to digitize media from a wide variety of sources including text, photographs, slides, video and audio. While we do not have sufficient staff and resources to offer "drop-off" service, we can train faculty, staff, and student workers who may have the time to work on higher volume projects.
Interactive Media Distribution
Once content is developed, the TLC staff can assist faculty in distributing the content through the most effective media channels. Some options include the internet, multimedia CD, DVD or classroom projection.
Loans & Classroom Support
The TLC maintains an equipment pool consisting of LCD projectors, laptops, digital cameras and other technological equipment. These materials are available free of charge to faculty and staff members for classroom presentations and Samford-related travel. Equipment may normally be reserved for up to a week at a time.
Optical Scanning of Tests and Surveys
The TLC is equipped with an Apperson Advantage 1200 Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) scanner for automated scoring of tests and surveys. The TLC staff can provide assistance in scanning optical mark sheets, which are available in the book store.
Resources
The TLC maintains a portable equipment pool consisting of LCD projectors, laptops, digital cameras and other technological equipment. These materials are available free of charge to faculty and staff members, and may normally be reserved for up to a week at a time. You may use the form below to request equipment for your class, conference, or event. Requests should generally be submitted at least three days in advance. If you need to reserve equipment on shorter notice, please call 205-726-2662 to make sure the equipment is available before submitting your online request.
We have a limited amount of equipment, and it is generally in high demand. Your request is not confirmed until you receive a response from us indicating that your reservation has been completed.
