Alabama Ballet is proud to present George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® as one of only eight companies in the world licensed by The Balanchine Trust to perform this holiday masterpiece. Tchaikovsky’s beloved melodies transport the young and young at heart to a magical world where mischievous mice besiege a battalion of toy soldiers, and an onstage blizzard leads to an enchanted Land of Sweets. Opera Birmingham presents Sounds of the Season

December 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Location: Brock Recital Hall

Kick off the holidays with Sounds of the Season, a concert of favorites both sacred and secular. Featuring surprise guest artists and familiar faces, the concert will feature a variety of solo and ensemble performances to set the perfect mood for the holiday season. Opera Birmingham is teaming up with the U.S. Marine Corps to provide toys for less fortunate children in the community this season through their TOYS FOR TOTS program. Tom and Marla Corts Distinguished Author Series presents Eric Motley

March 1 at 7 p.m.

Location: Wright Center

Eric Motley, a beloved Samford University alumnus, will be the featured speaker at the eighth annual event. The lecture’s focus will be on Motley’s personal memoir Madison Park: A Place of Hope, set to release November 2017. In Madison Park: A Place of Hope, Motley discusses his upbringing in the Madison Park community of Montgomery, Alabama, and the amazing power of gratitude, generosity, grace, and faith in God and each other.
