From its start in 1995 Passion has been rooted in the confession of Isaiah 26:8 – “Yes Lord, walking in the way of Your truth we wait eagerly for You, for Your name and Your renown are the desire of our hearts” - existing to glorify God by uniting students in worship, prayer and justice for spiritual awakening in this generation. Davis Architects Guest Artist Series presents Sammy Miller and the Congregation

A native of Los Angeles, Grammy® nominated drummer Sammy Miller has become known for his relentless focus on making music that feels good as a drummer, singer, and bandleader. Upon completing his Master’s at The Juilliard School, Sammy formed his ensemble, The Congregation. As a band, they share the power of community through their music—joyful jazz. Award winning theatre incubator, Ars Nova selected The Congregation for the ‘Makers Lab’ in 2017 to develop their genre-bending show, “Great Awakening.” While independently the band members have performed and recorded with notable artists including Wynton Marsalis, Lady Gaga, and Queen Latifah at venues including the White House, Lincoln Center and the Hollywood Bowl, they have opted to stick together to spread joy throughout the world. Strong-willed Ella embarks on a quest to reverse this curse, and encounters ogres, giants, fairy godmothers and a handsome prince along the way. Based on the Newbery- winning book and popular film, Ella Enchanted is a modern musical twist on the Cinderella story as Ella seeks to find her own voice and live as her true self. This event opens with an invitation only FirstNight on Thursday, Oct. 3 with a special presentation for area agencies.

Step Sing 2020

Step Sing began as a sing-along on the steps of Renfroe Hall at the Howard College East Lake Campus in 1951. It was held once a semester and soon became a competition. In 1957, Howard College moved to its present location on Lakeshore Drive, bringing with it the tradition of Step Sing. In 1976, Step Sing moved to its current home in the Samford University Wright Center.
