Step Sing began as a sing-along on the steps of Renfroe Hall at the Howard College East Lake Campus in 1951. It was held once a semester and soon became a competition. In 1957, Howard College moved to its present location on Lakeshore Drive, bringing with it the tradition of Step Sing. In 1976, Step Sing moved to its current home in the Samford University Wright Center.

Alabama Singing Men perform a free concert at Samford! Join us for an evening of music with this group of ministers of music, pastors, staff members, and laymen from Alabama Baptist churches. The group has been on national and international tours since 1972. Former directors include Dr. Paul Hall and Dr. Tim Banks, both long time music faculty at Samford. The current director is Dr. Thomas Smith, a Samford graduate, and former head of the Division of Music at Auburn University. The pianist is Frank Jones, also a Samford graduate.
The Sensational Soul Cruisers are an 11 piece show band that performs “Destination Motown,” where they deliver the greatest hits by the Temptations, the Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops and so many others. It is a multi-media show with this incredible live band that are described as a cross between Kool and the Gang, Chicago and the Temptations, delivering a “WOW” show, time after time.
Eva Schloss, the stepsister and childhood friend of Anne Frank, is a trustee of the Anne Frank Educational Trust, an author of three books, and the subject of James Stil's play, "And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank." Like her stepsister, Eva went into hiding in Holland until she, along with her family, were betrayed, captured and sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. This event is sponsored by the Chabad of Alabama and the Birmingham Holocaust Education Center. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 1.
