Freshman Retreat

The annual Freshman Retreat is coming August 28-29. There is no better way to kick start your Samford experience! Join hundreds of your peers for this weekend retreat where you will meet some of our sharpest upperclassmen who will serve as small group leaders to help you adjust to campus life. We will have fun together as we focus on relationship building and faith development through worship and small group interactions. You will have time to meet new friends and hang out, enjoying the lake activities, spike ball, basketball, beach volleyball, hiking, canoeing, ultimate frisbee, corn hole, gaga ball, 9-square or just chilling by the pool. Registration includes lodging, meals, transportation and free time activities.

Campus Worship

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.

Each Tuesday and Thursday morning during the fall and spring semesters, the Samford community gathers for campus worship at 10 a.m. Students, faculty and staff are invited to meet together for inspiration and encouragement from God’s Word. This service is led by the student worship band and features speakers from campus as well as guests from around the world.

One convocation credit is given for each attendance. Each student must bring a valid Samford I.D. to verify attendance to receive credit.

Cadres are small groups led by faculty, staff, or selected students that meet at least 6 times during a semester to discuss a book, biblical text, specified topic, or to participate in a service project. Up to 8 convocation credits are given to those who complete the requirements. Cadre registration takes place online during the first week of classes each semester. An email will be sent to all undergraduates announcing that students may log into Banner under the “Spiritual Life” tab to see all available groups. Those interested in leading a Cadre may submit proposals online for review by The Office of Spiritual Life.

Home Groups

Small groups of students meet one night each week in the home of a Samford faculty or staff member. They share a meal together and then engage in Bible study, conversations and prayer. These groups become an important connection point for those students involved and can last throughout the Samford experience.
