The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) facilitates research administration at Samford University. OSP oversees all pre-award activities and is authorized to submit proposals on behalf of Samford University. Once an award has been made, OSP provides comprehensive service in award administration.

Research Development

One of the priorities of the OSP is to provide Research Development assistance to support faculty in developing a successful research portfolio. Research Development support provides faculty with expert guidance on connecting to potential resources, collaborators, and funding, as well as cultivating relationships with federal, state, and corporate funding agencies.

Pre-Award Procedure

The office also serves Samford faculty by helping to develop high quality, competitive proposals that lead to success.  Notify the OSP, as well as your Chair and Academic Dean, as soon as possible via e-mail regarding your intent to apply for external funds. This stage is critical for all Samford stakeholders to plan and prepare for your upcoming submission, as the appropriate amount of time must be allotted in the calendar to accommodate budget revisions, routing, and submission.

Post-Award Management

The Post-Award Financial Office is responsible for organizing and coordinating comprehensive financial administration for Samford University’s sponsored programs portfolio. The Post-Award Accountant (Leslie Jones) works collaboratively with the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure timely and proper expenditure of grant funds in compliance with private, state, and federal requirements.

External funding for Research projects is relatively straightforward and simple to identify.
