From Parents, For Parents: A Message From Samford Parents Pam and Marc Hoppers
The holiday break is an exciting time for many of us with children in college. Once finals are submitted, we have our kids back in the home and they have a break. My hope for your Christmas break, from one Samford parent to another, is that it is a time for meaningful connection with your student.
From Parents, For Parents: A Message from Julie Boyd
We were not surprised when our youngest son chose a university where he did not know a single person. After all, he is a leader, an extrovert and loves adventure! I was shocked, however, when he had problems finding connection and struggled with homesickness the first semester. He was having roommate issues, could not find “his people” and college life in general did not live up to his expectations.
From Parents, For Parents: A Message from Samford Parents Sharla and Eric Stafford
The first time we visited Samford, we looked at each other and said, "This feels like home." After enrolling our twins at Samford in 2021, we quickly learned that the university truly loves its students and their families. As parents, we feel just as much a part of the Samford family as our girls do. Living in Minnesota, it’s over a 16-hour drive to Birmingham, but we have complete peace knowing they are at a school that will love them well.

From Parents, For Parents: A Message From Samford Parent Bryan Rose
As Kelly and I visited college campuses with our daughter before she decided on Samford, we heard a recurring refrain among the university admissions counselors we met. Each made the point slightly differently, but the implication was the same: “Our professors and resident assistants primarily communicate with the students; we will not answer parent emails or return parent phone calls.” Incredulous, I couldn’t imagine my parents calling one of my college professors to complain about my grades (2.03 that first semester) or find out if I was behaving in the dorm (spoiler alert: I was not).
